Syd Barrett
Syd founded his first band in 1962, called „Geoff Mott and the Mottoes“, and used to practice at the time in his family’s house. At the time, his school friend Roger Waters used to join him at home and jam. Later on they founded the legendary band „Pink Floyd“. Syd used to be the creative part of the band. They released their first album in 1967, called „The Piper at the Gates of Dawn“. Due to his abuse of illegal substances, Syd became more and more unpredictable and therefore the band hired David Gilmour as second guita- rist, in early 1968. On April 6th of the same year, Pink Floyd officially fired Syd Barrett. Syd attempted to start a solo-career, however due to mental problems and drug addiction, he stopped again after two albums „The Mad- cap Laughs“and „Barrett“. In the middle of the seventies he retired completely as a mu- sician. He died in 2006 due to complications with his diabetes.
